I love this scene, but probably my favorite thing about it isn’t even Dean stepping in front of Sam and going all protective-big-brother on the jail guy’s ass. It’s the way Sam says “Dean” right as Dean steps forward. See, he doesn’t say it like “Maybe this will calm him down.” He says it in the most perfunctory way possible. Like, he’s been through this a billion times before, and he knows there’s no stopping his brother, but he might as well put up a token protest.
